National Assembly

Supplementary Budget for 2022 approved |30 September 2022

The National Assembly yesterday approved the motion for a supplementary budget in line with Section 154(6) of the Constitution, for a sum of R472,807,401.81, for the remainder of 2022.

Twenty-one (21) members voted in favour of the budget, while zero voted against and 9 abstained.

The motion for the supplementary budget was presented officially before the National Assembly yesterday by the leader of government business in the National Assembly, Bernard Georges, after Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade, Naadir Hassan, had mentioned it in the country’s six-month review and fiscal performance last week.

The supplementary budget is half of the money from the sum of R887,451,324.04, which the government saved during the first six months of 2022.

It will now be redistributed to various government entities through the supplementary budget with a sum of R279.7 million going towards ‘Goods and Services’.
