Pillay R Group makes Christmas special for children’s homes   |27 December 2022

Pillay R Group makes Christmas special for children’s homes

In true Pillay R Group style, employees of the organisation continued with their long-running company tradition of giving back to the children of different orphanages and homes on Christmas Day.

Staff of the various companies under the aegis of one of the leading and largest business conglomerates in Seychelles owned by Ramu Pillay, dedicated their time and efforts to go from home to home, where they delivered a wide variety of ready-prepared meals complete with dessert and cakes, and a variety of presents, for both the children and their caretakers at the respective homes.

The team started off at the Foyer de Nazareth, Anse Etoile which is home to eighteen young boys, before moving on to the Foyer de la Providence which houses seventeen children of various ages, both boys and girls.

Of course, the children of the Foyer de la Solitude, La Misère and those of the President’s Village were not forgotten, and were also paid a visit whereby the goodies were delivered to management personnel.

Sister Marie Jeannine Ravoniniaina who is in charge of the Foyer de Nazareth expressed gratitude to the employees and company in general for their continued generosity and support throughout the years.

“Thank you to the Pillay R Group for thinking of all the homes, every year. We are extremely grateful for all that you are doing for us. We really appreciate it, and so do the children. We, on our side promise to pray for the prosperity and growth of the business so that it can continue to help, and also help others,” Sister Ravoniniaina stated.

The company has observed the tradition of providing lunch and presents for orphans for over twenty years and used to do so with a large gathering grouping them all together. However, over the past two years, they have had to adapt their way of doing so since the Covid pandemic and restrictions in place to curb the spread.

This year they made it a point to gift the homes and children with things and goodies that they are in need of, as advised by management.

Former marketing manager, Doris Belle, who started the tradition within the company, has made it a point each year to dedicate the day to the children instead of spending it with her own family and loved ones.

She explained that it means as much to the expatriate workers to partake in such an activity as many of them do not often get to interact with children while in the course of employment.

“Mr Pillay has a soft spot for children, and he adores them. He has always made it a point to remember the children and other groups such as persons living with disabilities,” Ms Belle said.

“It has been numerous years since I have been spending Christmas with the children, and I still do it even if I am no longer with the company. Everything else comes second, and my family understand that it is something which I do from the depths of my heart. If I skip out on this, my Christmas would be incomplete,” Ms Belle added.

The team were also joined by Shella Mohideen who has also made a point of volunteering for the activity for a number of years now.
