Fruit and vegetable vendors at Beau Vallon site urged to register   |31 January 2023

The Enterprise Seychelles Agency in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, district authorities and public health carried out an exercise of registering all fruit vendors currently operating at the Beau Vallon site.

This exercise is being undertaken to ensure that the fruit vendors are regulated and operating in an ethical manner.

The aforementioned entities went on site on Wednesday January 25 to meet with the vendors and explain the requirements that are being put in place, such as the need for them to register their businesses as well as registering with the Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC). Public health officials also provided advice on the hygiene requirements.

It is important to note that as part of the requirements, the vendors are required to provide evidence of where and how their supplies are received.

Once registration is completed, all registered vendors will receive a badge and t-shirts, which they should wear when carrying out their business in that specific location. The badge and t-shirt serves as proof of their formal registration and authorisation to be selling fruits in that location. Once all formalities have been completed, unregistered vendors will not be allowed to sell fruits and vegetables on the site.

It is important to note that monitoring and enforcement will be taken up by the police department and the Enterprise Seychelles Agency (Esa) will be doing weekly inspections as well to ensure that rules are being followed.

Esa is therefore calling on all registered vendors to ensure that their badges are available at all times and that t-shirts are being worn properly.
