Mr Kralev during his presentation yesterday

A group of UniSey students studying in various fields, journalists, press and communication officers along with some UniSey officials yesterday morning listened to a presentation by reputed and seasoned US journalist Nicholas Kralev, who is on a visit to Seychelles.

Mr Kralev, who specialises in international affairs, foreign policy and diplomacy, shared his experience as a former correspondent for the Financial Times, Washington Times, The New York Times, The Atlantic and who witnessed firsthand the conduct of American diplomacy while accompanying four US secretaries of state on their travels around the world: Hillary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright.

He is also the founding executive director of the Washington International Diplomatic Academy, an independent organisation that provides practical professional training in diplomacy.

“People everywhere in the world are affected by US diplomacy,” Mr Kralev remarked, stressing on the importance for its in-depth study.

Following his presentation members from the audience were able to ask questions and interact with Mr Kralev.

The presentation, which was organised by the US embassy through its office in Victoria and the UniSey, was held at the Anse Royale campus.

Meanwhile James Donegan, the new US counsellor for Seychelles affairs based in the US office in Victoria, said this is the first in a series of interactions and exchanges by different US personalities to be organised during the course of this year.

He noted that different other initiatives among them the setting up of an American Corner is being considered to give more information to Seychellois citizens namely students who would like to know more about the United States or those who are ambitious and planning to take up studies in the US. An American Corner will also provide hands-on information to facilitate exchanges in various fields between Seychelles and the United States.
