Sobering up in Dry March |01 March 2023
The drug and substance abuse, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation section of the Ministry of Health is inviting everyone to join the ‘Dry March’ with the strong message, “Ditch alcohol for the entire month of March as a way to step back and evaluate your drinking habits”.
Commemorated every year, spanning from March 1-31, this year’s campaign is being celebrated under the theme ‘Benefits of Staying Sober’ (BOSS).
When things get tough, we can find ourselves slipping into drinking habits we wish we could break – but Dry March can help. It is our chance for a reset. Thirty-one (31) days to try something new, and to see some amazing benefits like brighter skin, a fuller wallet, a calmer mind and a better night’s sleep.
Dry March is not about stopping drinking forever, but it is about more than March. It is about learning that you do not need alcohol so that for the rest of the year you have a real choice. It is about everyone looking at their lifestyle choices and get clear about how they can support their health and well-being.
It is all too easy to bury our heads in the sand when it comes to our drinking. All indication shows that alcohol consumption and alcohol health related diseases are increasing.
If you are doing Dry March, please do it with support. You can call drug and substance abuse, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation (DSAPTR) section who can offer you the support, counselling and free resources to help you make the most of your 31 days dry. By doing so, you double your chance of having a totally alcohol-free month and getting the amazing, lasting benefits Dry March can bring.
Dry March is not about giving something up. It is about getting something back. Get your fun back. Get your calm back. Get your energy back. Get your BOSS back allowing you to take control of your health.
