Karting: Round 3 |12 May 2023

Ally, Cosgrow victorious at juniors and cadets round 3

Adam Ally and Joshua Cosgrow took victory at round three of the 2023 karting championships held last Saturday afternoon at the Champions Park Raceway, Roche Caïman.

In the youngest class in local karting, the Cadets, made up of 10–11-year-old drivers, Joshua Cosgrow won a hard-fought final, coming under stiff opposition especially from Rocco Larue who finished a close second and Maya Moulinie.

In the final, Rocco got the jump on pole sitter Joshua with Maya close to his bumper, but as they got to lap two Joshua dived in at the hairpin and got past Rocco to lead. Meanwhile behind drama unfolded, when first Maya got entangled with another driver and spun round which dropped her to last place.

Loïc Raoul and Hayden Leong Pon battled it out for the last podium position with Hayden then setting some fast lap times midway where he eventually passed Loïc to claim third place.

Loïc chased hard to stay in contention to take fourth place while Maya motored on to take fifth position overall. Joshua leads the championship followed by Hayden, Loïc, Noah Moulinie who is temporarily out due to an injury, Maya, Hugo Patel who was overseas and Loïc.

In the older Junior class, Adam Ally dominated the proceedings winning both the final and the pre-final. It was a round of drama and crashes in this class as the drivers pushed themselves to the limit. Two notable drivers who would like to forget that race are championship leader Lexcus Lui Chit Chon and Keeno Leong Pon after they had a coming together with just two laps left in the race which eliminated both of them on the spot.

Rudolph Camille put on another sterling drive to claim second place but Julius Sinon made life hard for him by challenging him at every corner of the circuit, his reward was a close third place.

Both Lexcus and Hayden were classified as finishers at the end as they have covered two thirds of the race distance, with Keeno placed fourth and Lexcus fifth. Lexcus still holds top spot in the Junior championship followed by Rudolph, Adam, Julius and Keeno.

Their fourth round is set for June 3.
