Mauritian author, composer and singer, Denis Claud Gaspard, the son of Jean Claude Gaspard, is currently in Seychelles on a music cultural exchange.
Denis is highly renowned for his energetic cabaret performances in hotels back in his home country. In his over 30-year musical career, Denis has also released a number of albums, several of which included remakes of his father’s classic ‘sega’ tunes such as ‘L'ambiance Mauricien’.
This exchange has been possible thanks to the team comprising Joseph Sinon and Clive Camille, who collaborated with Denis on the second edition of the ‘Sega Moris Sesel’ (SMS)project in 2021.
“It was always in our plans to explore the possibility of having such musical exchanges as we feel it gives more value to the SMS movement that we started back in 2021,” according to Mr Sinon.
Denis Gaspard will be doing several performances while in Seychelles, which also coincides with Mr Sinon’s 58th birthday celebration. However, the highlight of the exchange will be tonight at the Buckinarms Palace, where the Mauritian artist will be performing live alongside Clive Camille, Joseph Sinon and Mervin Camille, accompanied by the local band ‘Tsunami’.
“The band has been practicing for several weeks now in preparation for the show. We chose Buckinarms Palace being that it provides a more intimate setting for such exchange,” said Clive Camille.
Denis Gaspard will leave the country on Sunday and the organisers of this initiative has confirmed with Seychelles NATION that this is the first of many exchanges to come as they are already working towards a collaborative album to feature more Mauritian artists.
