SIAD hosts first art bazaar |17 June 2023
The Seychelles Institute of Art and Design (SIAD) held its first ever art bazaar at the school campus, Anse Royale yesterday, with several products such as paintings, drawings, textile fabrics, clothes, cushions and more on sale.
The event on the last day of school before semester break, attracted parents who had converged at the school for meetings with the lecturers, as part of the parent-teachers meeting.
The director of SIAD, Christine Chetty Payet, said they wanted to do an art bazaar this year to coincide with their open day because it was only now that things were going back to normal after Covid-19.
Mrs Chetty Payet said although SIAD takes part in several other bazaars at various different venues such as Domaine de Val Des Pres, this was actually the first time they organised their own.
She explained this was an opportunity for the students to showcase their talents and amazing work to their parents and other guests, who could buy items on sale, ranging from R10 to R200.
“It is heartwarming to see parents buying and taking home their child’s product, because it really shows their support and also encourage the students,” she said.
She described the bazaar as ‘a bazaar with experience’.
It is hoped the event would be an annual one.
