The United Arab Emirates was very well represented in the celebrations to mark Seychelles’ 47th Independence Day anniversary on June 29, 2023.

Members of the Abu Dhabi Society for Folk Art and Theater performed at the Gordon Square at the end of the parade in the streets of Victoria.

This took place before a remarkable gesture towards Seychelles when the world’s tallest skyscraper, the iconic Burj Khalifa, located in the vibrant city of Dubai, and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) building were bathed in the colours of the Seychelles flag.

The Abu Dhabi Society for Folk Art and Theater again performed near the clock tower during lunchtime on Friday June 30.

The colours of the Seychelles flag – blue, yellow, red, white, and green – lighting up the skyline of Dubai and the presence of the Abu Dhabi Society for Folk Art and Theater in the country to take part with Seychellois in the vibrant display of pride and patriotism during this major event, reflect the strong cultural and trade ties between the UAE and Seychelles.

Since gaining its independence from Great Britain on June 29, 1976, Seychelles has been a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.

In commemoration of Seychelles’ Independence Day, President Wavel Ramkalawan also received congratulatory messages from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), along with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of the Presidential Court.
