The Seychelles Chamber of Commerce & Industry in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade under the Economic Partnership Agreement funded by the European Union, has successfully trained over 80 businesses, 15 Seychellois trainers including a team from the SCCI secretariat.

This was announced during a short meeting at the SCCI headquarters in Victoria, yesterday, in the presence of the outgoing EU ambassador, Vincent Degert.

The training was in three series; namely Trainings for trainers where they were taught Marketing Planning & Development, Enterprise book keeping and accounting, as well as Trainings for small-medium enterprises, where the two topics were done separately.

The secretary general of SCCI, Iouana Pillay, said that the next phase of the programme is to conduct training at district level to help empower the private sector as well as employees in their work places.

“We have consolidated and identified businesses in the districts. We believe district trainings will also help to strengthen and cement the relations between the private sector and the government,” she said, noting how vital the government’s support was to achieving such success.

Mervin Elizabeth, chairman of the Omnibus Association and a participant in the programme, said following his training he can now go out in the community to train others.

“This is a crucial part that we need to do because we have to give back to the community as it will benefit all of us in the long run,” he said.

Another participant, Jennie Ah-Kong, the chairperson of the Groupe Artisans de Seychelles, said “It was an honour to participate in the workshop, and I am now sharing and implementing what was taught and passing on the knowledge of book keeping to them so they will be able to do it on their own.”

The SCCI also plan to carry out other training at their headquarters, where they will install new equipment to facilitate 24-hour access for businesses.
