Nepalese community in Seychelles donates blood |27 November 2023

The Nepalese community successfully organised a blood donation drive at the Seychelles Hospital on November 19, 2023.

In response to the call by the Nepalese Seychellois Friendship Association, operating under the theme 'Give Blood Save Life,' a total of 50 individuals showed up at the hospital, with 24 meeting the donation criteria.

The primary objective was to collect a substantial amount of blood to replenish the daily stocks utilised by the Seychelles Hospital.

The initiative also aimed to promote a culture of blood donation within the hospital community. Participants, hailing from various workplaces, were mobilised by the association, which actively engaged and encouraged employees to support the cause.

Notably, Seychelles police officers and other individuals also joined the effort to donate blood.

Among the initial contributors was the Association's president, Mr Manoj, who expressed that the plan had been in motion for an extended period, facing delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He affirmed the commitment to conducting blood donation drives every four months at the Seychelles Hospital, with plans to extend the initiative to Praslin and La Digue.

Mr Manoj highlighted the altruistic motive behind the endeavour, emphasising the belief that everyone can live not only for themselves but also for others.

D V. Sharma, a regular donor and supporter, commended the substantial turnout, emphasising the nobility of donating blood as an act of generosity and solidarity.

He expressed gratitude to the participants, the Nepalese Association, the BTC team, Seychelles police, and Red Cross Seychelles for their invaluable support.

In recognition of the donors' contributions, the association presented Appreciation certificates to all donors and the entire Blood Transfusion Centre team. The Blood Transfusion Centre, in turn, extended gratitude to the Nepalese Association for their assistance during periods of blood shortage, acknowledging the significant impact on those in need.
