Investigation underway in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Seychelles Hospital

The Health Care Agency, in the Ministry of Health, has announced there is an ongoing investigation concerning a recent outbreak of infections in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Seychelles Hospital.

In a press release issued yesterday, the Health Care Agency said that in the past few weeks, they have observed an unexpected increase in severe infections among neonates in their care, regrettably resulting in deaths. “These events are deeply concerning to us, and our thoughts are with the families affected during this difficult time,” read the statement.

“We have initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of these infections. Our immediate response has included stringent enforcement of infection prevention and control protocols, thorough sanitization of the NICU area, and a detailed review of all clinical procedures.”

“We assure the public that our dedicated team of healthcare professionals is working tirelessly to manage this situation,” the statement added.

The Health Care Agency said updates on the investigation and any relevant information will be provided as they become available.  “We understand the concern this situation may cause and are committed to maintaining transparency with the public and all stakeholders.”

“We appreciate the community's support and understanding as we navigate this challenging situation,” the press release concluded.
