UCPS takes dynamic decision to ensure brick production at its Providence branch

The Providence branch of the United Concrete Products Seychelles (UCPS), is closing two hours earlier than schedule for the remainder of the week for crushing, to ensure an adequate amount of materials is available for the production of bricks.

The company took the dynamic decision yesterday but stated that the opening hours for the remaining branches remain the same.

Speaking to Seychelles NATION yesterday afternoon, the chief executive of UCPS, Gregory Albert, explained that the branch was running low on bricks and needed to dedicate more time for crushing so that they can build up capacity to keep up with the production.

He added that if the Providence branch was to close at its usual time, there were already several trucks inside, which will take up to two hours to get served.

Mr Albert said that this was a dynamic decision and there is no change to their working hours. The decision will be reviewed by Friday based on the production pace, he added.

With regard to the crusher at the secondary plant in Anse Des Genets, which was experiencing technical issues, Mr Albert said it was yet to be fixed. “We did try over the weekend to fix it but it turns out we need more spare parts. All our efforts have gone towards trying to fix it. We only managed to crush for one day and afterwards, the problem resurfaced. We are ordering the parts as we speak,” he told Seychelles NATION. As a result, adequate stock could not be produced over the weekend.

“We are trying to avoid a situation where we are completely out of bricks, that is until we can fix the crusher, then everything will go back to normal. Right now we are trying to make sure all our clients are satisfied,” he concluded.
