Is a tourism master plan for Seychelles possible? |03 May 2025

An effective master plan is an organised set of decisions which comprehensively address and seek to solve problems, sometimes at a national or international level.
We begin by asking whether there is a need for such a plan within and across the Seychelles tourism sector. In order to answer this, we have to identify and existing problems in our tourism sector and also anticipate possible future threats.
At this time, we read about multiple acts of international coordination in response to the American administration’s recent increases in import tariffs. We have witnessed in recent times an unprecedented period of uncertainty and confusion, as well as some anger directed at America for what many nations consider unfriendly economic policies. China has been hardest hit, with combined import taxes for specific goods hitting nearly 250% (source BBC), and with most other goods sitting at 145%. China has responded by raising its own tariffs for incoming American goods.
