A chat with Christiane Obydol from Zouk Machine

‘Music is about giving and receiving’

Zouk Machine was an all-female band that was active from 1986 to 1995. The zouk group from Guadeloupe had several hit songs, particularly in France, such as the summer number-one single on French SNEP Singles Chart ‘Maldòn (la musique dans la peau)’ in 1990 that sold over 1 million copies, well more than any other Antillean band, even Kassav.

As the last remaining original member of the iconic all-female group Zouk Machine, Christiane Obydolcontinues to carry the legacy. Now celebrating 40 years in the music industry, Christiane sat down with us to reflect on her journey – from singing with her father in Guadeloupe to headlining international stages.
