Up Close with Alvin Laurence

‘Leadership starts at home, where children first learn the values of hard work and discipline’

 

Earlier this month, Alvin Laurence, chief executive of the Citizens Engagement Platform of Seychelles, announced he was stepping down after having served two two-year mandates. Seychelles NATION sat down with this key national figure who has been at the forefront of many campaigns and programmes for the youths and the community in general since his early days as a student. He shares his journey and his future plans.

 

Who is Alvin Laurence?

Alvin was born on June 19, 1981 in the upper district of Cascade where he grew up. He is the last child in a family of six (four boys and two girls). The family lived on a small agricultural farm, which included some livestock as well. The farm was managed by his mother who was an agriculture entrepreneur. His father was a mechanic.
