Courage, calm and the call of the sea

On any ordinary day at Club Med Seychelles 19-year-old Eros Barallon might be found teaching guests how to steer a hobby cat or accompanying them on a kayaking trip through the turquoise waters of Sainte Anne. Calm, composed, and utterly at ease at sea, Eros is not the kind to court attention.

But Thursday May 29, 2025, was not an ordinary day. That day, the young sailing instructor saved four lives – two mariners from a capsized vessel, and earlier, two tourists in distress. “I didn’t really think about it. I just acted. It felt like the right thing to do,” he says softly, his eyes scanning the sea as though it’s speaking back to him.
