DFF launches citizen-led coastal monitoring through smartphones

The Danny Faure Foundation earlier this month launched the Community Coastal Watch Group programme at the Beach Shak Bar & Grill in Beau Vallon, marking Seychelles’ entry into a growing global network of citizen-led beach monitoring stations.

The event, attended by Eddy and Jill Laporte – the establishment’s owners – along with Former President Danny Faure and other guests, introduced an initiative that blends environmental science, community involvement, and smartphone technology. The initiative’s driving force is CoastSnap, a shoreline monitoring tool that transforms everyday mobile phones into scientific instruments.
