Independence Day

Celebrating Seychelles’ patriotism

By Sunny Esparon

The National Day Parade once again brought vibrancy and patriotic celebration to the heart of Seychelles' capital, Victoria, on Sunday.

Constitution Avenue served as the backdrop for this year’s parade, a now-familiar change from the former Stad Linite venue. The event marked the 49th anniversary of Seychelles’ independence, celebrated under sunny skies and a sea of national colours.

The National Day was graced by the presence of President Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by First Lady Linda Ramkalawan. Joining them were Vice-President Ahmed Afif and his wife Stella Afif; Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Roger Mancienne; the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Rony Govinden; the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Anthony Fernando; the Principal Minister and chairperson of the National Celebrations Committee, Jean-François Ferrari; members of Cabinet; and other distinguished guests.
