Seychelles launches inception workshop for tuna fish grading system |16 August 2025

The Seychelles fishing industry took a major step toward improving quality standards and market competitiveness on Thursday with the launch of an inception workshop to design and implement a national tuna fish grading system at L’Escale Resort.
The initiative is backed by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and aims to address longstanding challenges in quality, value determination, and the absence of a recognised national seafood brand. The Principal Minister and Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Jean-François Ferrari, spoke about how this project put emphasis on the vital role of tuna in the national economy, food security, and livelihoods.
“We must acknowledge the challenges that persist, especially those that hinder us from fully realising the full value of our marine resources. Now, in recent years, this ministry and the SFA have made commendable steps in developing infrastructure, revising legislation, introducing policies etc.”
