Friends of Aldabra urges rethink of Assomption task force composition

Friends of Aldabra has acknowledged the announcement by the Minister for Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources regarding the establishment of an Inter-Sectoral Environmental Task Force for Assomption Island.
In a press release issued on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the group welcomed the government’s recognition of the need for coordinated environmental action and expressed support, in principle, for a task force to oversee urgent priorities such as biodiversity assessments and strengthened biosecurity measures. “This approach aligns with a proposal for an independent oversight committee that Friends of Aldabra shared with President Patrick Herminie and Minister Marie-May Jeremie in December 2025,” the statement noted.
