Fisheries and Blue Economy budgets sail through National Assembly
The Fisheries and Blue Economy departments have been allocated a budget of R56 million for the year 2026.
The appropriations were approved by the National Assembly last Monday, February 23.
Of the total allocation, R46,980,000 has been earmarked for the Department of Fisheries, while R9,435,000 will go to the Department of the Blue Economy.
Presenting the budget, Minister for Fisheries, Agriculture and the Blue Economy, Wallace Cosgrow, highlighted fisheries as a key pillar of the economy, and defended the government’s position in ongoing negotiations with the European Union over fishing access.
