The board of the Central Bank of Seychelles has decided to maintain the monetary policy rate at 1.75 percent for the second quarter of 2026. The decision follows a meeting held on Tuesday.
The governor of the Central Bank, Caroline Abel, made the statement in a press conference held at Unity House yesterday morning.
Accordingly, the interest rate on the standing deposit facility (SDF) and standing credit facility (SCF) will be kept at 0.25 percent and 3.25 percent respectively. The minimum reserve requirement (MRR) on applicable rupee-denominated deposits will also remain unchanged at 10 percent.
According to Ms Abel, recent domestic developments show that economic activity continues to be supported by the tourism industry. Visitor arrivals remained strong during the first two months of 2026, although tourism activity was affected in March following the escalation of the regional conflict in the Middle East. This resulted in disruptions to regional airspace and the closure of major airports serving as key transit hubs for travellers to Seychelles.
