The Public Utilities Corporation has confirmed that it successfully replaced one section of a major water transmission pipeline linking Rochon Dam to La Dogue that burst on Monday evening in the vicinity of Union Vale roundabout.
At the time of going to press, the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) was still carrying out repair works within the roundabout area.
In a press release issued yesterday afternoon, PUC said the incident on Monday occurred at around 7pm, and it quickly deployed a response team to assess the situation and determine the extent of the damage.
Excavation works commenced at around 9pm to ease urgent repairs and continued into the early hours of Tuesday morning. To ensure the safety of both the public and PUC personnel, it temporarily closed part of the lanes at the roundabout, read the press release.
PUC explained that despite continuous overnight efforts, repair works were not fully completed by Tuesday morning, resulting in traffic congestion during peak hours.
“PUC acknowledges the inconvenience caused and extends its sincere appreciation to the police for their valuable assistance in managing traffic flow,” read the statement.
“By approximately 2pm today (Tuesday), one section of the pipeline within the roadway was successfully replaced, allowing for the reopening of the road and easing traffic flow,” added the communiqué.
PUC had reassured the public that water supply was not affected by the incident and all works were expected to be completed later yesterday evening.
