Takamaka primary pupils embrace hands-on learning at Dan Sours

Laughter, curiosity and the sounds from nature filled the air as a group of 30 pupils from Takamaka primary school set out on a discovery learning walk along the Dan Sours trail recently.

Far from the traditional classroom setting, this hands-on experience brought their lessons on living and non-living things vividly to life. From the rustling of leaves to the movement of insects and the stillness of rocks and water, every element became part of their learning journey.

The children were accompanied by their teachers – Santa Rose, Sheryldanne Hoareau, Manuella Thomas and Anselma Thomas Greedarry.

“The main purpose was to help pupils understand the topic of animals better through a real-life learning experience outside the classroom. With discovery learning, children can use all their senses to experience their immediate environment and share their own knowledge,” said Mrs Greedarry.
