IECD launches 15th PRESET programme to train new childminders

The Institute of Early Childhood Development officially launched its 15th Pre-Registration, Sensitisation and Training programme on Saturday morning at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education auditorium.

For the 2026 cohort, approximately 90 applicants have registered and are taking part in the programme. The Pre-Registration, Sensitisation and Training (PRESET) launch coincided with the inaugural session, which focused on one of the mandatory standards – child rights and protection. The session was facilitated by Beryl Payet, principal secretary of the Social Affairs department.

The primary focus of the 15th training, which will run until June 20, 2026, is the national standards for home-based child care services and includes a range of engaging, hands-on activities designed to promote practical and meaningful learning. The programme is delivered in close collaboration with partners across the early childhood care and education (ECCE) sector.

Chief executive of the Institute of Early Childhood Development (IECD), Shirley Choppy gave a rundown of the programme’s content, highlighting it will be delivered through a structured series of sessions covering key standards essential to home-based child care services.
