Clock tower’s restoration is underway

The restoration for the Victoria Clock Tower Monument began on Sunday morning as part of a coordinated national effort to preserve one of the country’s most recognisable landmarks.

Present to oversee the dismantling exercise being done by British-based contractor, Gillett & Johnston, was Tourism and Culture Minister, Amanda Bernstein and the executive director of the Seychelles National Heritage Resource Council, Benjamine Rose.

Speaking to the media, Ms Rose said the dismantling of the tower for restoration is a significant step in its 123-year history. The process is expected to be completed by Tuesday, after which the structure will be placed in a secure warehouse in Mont Fleuri.
