Appointment of the Youth Empowerment Council

 

The Office of the President has announced the appointment of members of the Youth Empowerment Council.

The council will comprise: Liam D’Unienville, Rudy Sinon, Jean-Michel Vidot, Liah Pillay, Fabien Jeanne, Chirelle Lau Tee, Camilla Cupidon, Leah Pool and Tannie Samedi.

The members will appoint a chairperson, a vice-chairperson, and a secretary amongst themselves.

The Youth Empowerment Council’s role is to provide a formal mechanism for youth involvement in national decision-making, advise the government on policies, legislation, strategies, and programmes affecting young people and to strengthen youth leadership, civic engagement, and social inclusion.

Additionally, it will serve as a structured interface between the government, youth organisations, and young people.

The council has been appointed for a two-year term, effective April 15, 2026.
