Autosport Seychelles adjusts May motorsport activities in support of national energy conservation initiative |18 April 2026
Autosport Seychelles has announced a temporary adjustment to its May 2026 motorsport calendar in support of the government of Seychelles’ recently introduced energy conservation measures.
Following the announcement by President Patrick Herminie on Friday April 10, 2026 regarding the implementation of a weekly Energy Conservation Day across the public sector, the Autosport Seychelles executive committee convened on Monday April 13, 2026 to assess how the organisation could contribute meaningfully to the national effort.
The government’s initiative forms part of a broader response to global developments impacting energy supply and fuel costs, with the objective of reducing electricity consumption, lowering fuel usage, and strengthening national energy resilience while maintaining essential services.
In alignment with these objectives, Autosport Seychelles has resolved to scale back its racing activities during the month of May 2026. As motorsport is uniquely dependent on fuel consumption, the association recognises its responsibility to support national efforts aimed at conservation and sustainability.
As a result, the following events will not take place in May:
- The ‘Come Karting’ public event scheduled for May 1, 2026
- Round 3 of the Seychelles Karting National Championship, including all categories: Honda Cadets, Bambinos, Juniors, Seniors, K-Legends and BMB125
Autosport Seychelles emphasised that this decision reflects a gesture of solidarity with the country and a commitment to responsible sporting governance. While motorsport remains an important platform for youth development, community engagement and national representation, the association acknowledges the importance of adapting its activities in times of national priority.
The executive committee will continue to monitor developments and will communicate any further updates regarding the championship calendar in due course.
Autosport Seychelles remains committed to supporting national initiatives while continuing to build a sustainable and forward-looking motorsport ecosystem in Seychelles.
