Planting seeds for the future: Young farmer Zarah Ally giving back to her community

For young Seychellois farmer Zarah Ally, agriculture is not just about growing crops or running a business. It is also about giving back to the community and inspiring the next generation.

Through her agricultural venture, ZBEST, Zarah has been welcoming school groups to her farm located at St Louis, offering students a chance to see first-hand how agriculture works and why it matters for the future. The visits allow young people to learn about farming, sustainability and the importance of caring for the environment.

Although the farm is currently undergoing renovations, Zarah is already planning the next step in strengthening this connection with the community. She hopes to introduce a ‘ZBEST Ambassador’ initiative that will support schools across different districts in setting up small gardening projects.

“My goal is to inspire young people to understand the importance of agriculture and to take an active role in caring for the environment,” she said.
