Young artists shine at Kenwyn House art competition

Jessica Hoareau and Shanelha Onezime emerged as winners of the Kenwyn House art competition and were rewarded during a short prize-giving ceremony held on Wednesday afternoon at Kenwyn House, Victoria.

Over the past four years, the competition has steadily grown into one of the most anticipated highlights on the local cultural calendar – a vibrant platform where passion, courage, and artistic expression take centre stage.

Originally introduced as a community-driven initiative, the competition was designed to encourage amateur artists to step out of the shadows and embrace their creative voice. Held annually in celebration of World Art Day on April 15, it has evolved into a meaningful space that not only showcases talent but also nurtures confidence and self-expression among participants.

This year marks a significant shift in the competition’s direction, with a renewed focus on youth development. In a deliberate move to invest more deeply in emerging talent, organisers have removed the adult category. The change aims to provide young creatives with greater opportunities for recognition and growth at a formative stage in their artistic journey.
