PUC issues statement on power outage affecting Praslin and La Digue |22 April 2026
The Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) wishes to inform the public of a temporary interruption to electricity supply that occurred at approximately 1.50pm yesterday at the Baie Ste Anne Power Station. The incident affected electricity distribution across Praslin and La Digue.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the outage was caused by tree-felling activity undertaken by a private contractor in the Cap Samy area, which impacted the power network supplying both islands.
PUC response teams were immediately deployed to assess the situation and commence restoration works. Electricity supply was progressively reinstated, with full restoration achieved by 4pm.
PUC acknowledges the inconvenience caused and extends its appreciation to all residents and businesses for their patience and understanding during this period.
