New council to drive education reforms
The Office of the President has announced the appointment of members of the Education Reform Council.
The Council’s mandate is to provide strategic leadership and policy guidance for reforms beginning with Early Childhood and Primary Education (Phase 1) and extending to Secondary Education (Phase 2).
The Council’s role is to:
• develop the reform roadmap
• guide curriculum, assessment, and pedagogical reform
• promote innovation and future skills
• strengthen coherence across the education system,
• ensure reforms are inclusive, evidence-based, sustainable, and aligned with national development priorities.
The Education Reform Council will also oversee implementation progress, engage stakeholders, and provide recommendations to the Cabinet on the proposed structure and roll-out of the reforms.
The members of the Council are: Dr Justin Zelime (chairperson), Jean Alcindor (vice-chairperson), Bergitta Labonte, Elisabeth Agathine, Susan Morel, Dr Sherley Marie, Michael Nalletamby, Iouana Pillay, and Dr Penda Choppy (members).
The Council has been appointed for a period of five years.
