Historic scuttling of Topaz creates dive attraction
The former Seychelles Coast Guard patrol ship Topaz was officially laid to rest on Saturday afternoon, deliberately sunk offshore behind Conception Island to form an artificial reef and future dive attraction.
The operation began at 9.30am when the vessel departed the Seychelles Coast Guard (SCG) base at Ile Perseverance, towed by the tug Ste Anne from the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA). After a four-hour journey to the designated site, the flooding process commenced offshore.
