Tourism beyond the beaches: Can community events help shape the future of tourism in Seychelles?

Walking through the recent Inner Islands Expo at Ile Eve, I noticed something beyond the colourful displays of local products and cultural performances. It was the laughter, the music, and the genuine interactions that stood out.

Among the crowd were tourists who had become more than spectators. They sampled food, filmed performances, danced to local rhythms, chatted with artisans, and engaged with exhibitors eager to share the stories behind their crafts.

Watching these moments unfold raised an important question: could national and community events such as the Inner Islands Expo become a greater part of Seychelles’ tourism experience?
