A bicycle, a school bag and a daily island adventure!

On La Digue, bicycles are more than just a way of getting around – they are part of island life. From early mornings, the roads come alive with students cycling to school, friends riding together and families moving around the island on two wheels.

Unlike many places where students depend mainly on buses or cars to get to school, cycling has become a natural part of growing up on La Digue. The sound of bicycle bells, the sight of students riding in groups and the familiar greetings exchanged along the way are all part of the rhythm of everyday island life. For many young people, learning to ride a bicycle is almost a childhood milestone, marking their first steps towards independence.
