Research proves abundance of reef fish across monsoon seasons at Frégate Island in Seychelles

Reef fish are extremely important to Seychelles because they contribute to food security, employment, traditional fishing practices, tourism, and the country’s wider Blue Economy. However, reef fish are not always found in the same numbers or places. Their abundance can change according to environmental conditions such as temperature, currents, seasons, habitat, and human activities. One important environmental factor in Seychelles is the monsoon system, which causes substantial seasonal changes in ocean conditions.
