Study highlights migrant teachers’ role in shaping national identity

Dr Nathalie Duval presented findings from her doctoral research on the pedagogical practices of migrant history teachers in Seychelles during a session on Thursday last week at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education.

The event gathered dignitaries from the Ministry of Education & Human Resource Development, alongside teachers and students, to hear how national history teaching influences identity formation.

Dr Duval’s study examined three areas:

• The role of the national history curriculum in building identity.
• Teaching practices of both migrant and Seychellois history teachers.
• Students’ perceptions of how teachers contribute to national identity.
