Deaf Week 2026 celebrates achievements and rights of Seychelles’ deaf community

The Association for the Deaf in Seychelles officially celebrated Deaf Week 2026 during a ceremony held on Saturday morning at Deepam Cinema. The week-long observance, which began on September 21 and concludes today, was held under the theme ‘Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights’.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Deaf of the Year 2026 award to Shana David. She received a trophy and a return air ticket to Mauritius sponsored by the association. The award was presented by the resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Seychelles, Makoto Sakuta.
