October campaign highlights cancer prevention and early detection
The Public Health Authority (PHA), through its Cancer Programme, will commemorate October Cancer Awareness Month 2026 with a series of activities aimed at increasing awareness of cancer prevention, early detection and screening.
While October places particular emphasis on breast cancer awareness, the campaign will also promote awareness of other common cancers and encourage individuals to know their bodies, recognise possible warning signs, participate in recommended screening programmes and seek medical advice early when concerns arise.
As a visible show of solidarity with individuals and families affected by cancer, The Quadrant in Victoria will be illuminated in pink throughout October, with support from Hunt Deltel. The PHA and the Ministry of Health have extended their appreciation to the company for supporting the campaign and helping to raise the profile of cancer awareness in Seychelles.
Activities planned for the month include the Pink Ribbon Campaign, promotion and recruitment for mammography screening, clinic-based cancer awareness talks, media and social media campaigns, a Cancer Awareness Quiz, and a Cancer Hope & Healing Service.
The Cancer Programme will work closely with healthcare services, community health centres and partners throughout the month. Information, education and communication (IEC) materials will also be distributed to support public awareness and education efforts.
The PHA is encouraging individuals, families, organisations and communities to take an active role in cancer prevention and early detection.
