‘Dan and DMD’ book raises awareness of rare condition

Jason presents the book to Dr Athanasius in the presence of First Lady Veronique Herminie and Christine Winslow

A small book carrying a powerful message of understanding and hope was presented at the Office of the First Lady, using one local family's experience with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) to raise awareness of the rare genetic condition.

The event featured the presentation of ‘Dan and DMD’, a child-friendly educational book designed to help children newly diagnosed with DMD, as well as their families, better understand the condition in a simple, age-appropriate and reassuring manner.

The book was presented to Dr Erna Athanasius by Jason Winslow.

The initiative was inspired by the personal journey of the Winslow family, whose son, Jason, was diagnosed with DMD. Following the diagnosis, the family turned their experience into a platform for advocacy, raising awareness and providing support to other families facing similar challenges.

Through community outreach and social media, Jason's mother, Christine Winslow, has been sharing information about DMD, including its symptoms, the challenges children and families may face, practical advice and available sources of support.
