International Ombuds Day |08 October 2026

A message from the Office of the Ombudsman

“International Ombuds Day, which is celebrated on the second Thursday of October, is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of Ombudsman institutions in promoting administrative justice, accountability, good governance, human rights, and the rule of law.

“In Seychelles, the Office of the Ombudsman is an independent constitutional institution established by the Constitution. The Office serves as a constitutional guardian of administrative justice and constitutional coherence. Through its functions of investigating and reviewing administrative action, examining complaints concerning public authorities, and participating in proceedings relating to the constitutionality of laws and the protection of Charter rights, the Office contributes to the promotion of legality, fairness, accountability, and respect for constitutional principles.

“This year also marks an important institutional milestone for the Office with the introduction of the first Scheme of Service for its investigations cadre, strengthening the professional and institutional capacity of the Office in the discharge of its constitutional functions.

“Seychelles also marked 50 years of Independence in 2026, which provides an opportunity to reflect upon the importance of strong and independent institutions in preserving the values upon which our Republic is founded and maintaining public confidence in the constitutional order.

“On this International Ombuds Day, the Office of the Ombudsman reaffirms its commitment to serving the people of Seychelles with independence, impartiality, integrity, and professionalism in the promotion of administrative justice, constitutional coherence, human rights, accountability, good governance, and the rule of law.

“Happy International Ombuds Day.”
