Seychelles tightens travel measures amid DRC Ebola outbreak
The Ministry of Health has introduced additional travel measures in response to the ongoing Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as authorities seek to reduce the risk of the disease being imported into Seychelles.
The ministry said it continues to closely monitor the evolving situation in the DRC, where the outbreak has spread to new areas and where recent cross-border transmissions have been recorded. Given the uncertainty surrounding containment efforts, travel to the DRC is strongly discouraged until further notice.
Under the new measures, foreign nationals travelling from the DRC will only be granted entry into Seychelles if they have spent at least 21 days outside the DRC before travelling. They must also have complied with all health monitoring requirements in the country where they stayed and provide supporting documentation where applicable.
Seychellois citizens and residents arriving from the DRC, or who have been present in the country within the previous 21 days, will be subject to mandatory public health measures.
These may include quarantine at a designated facility or approved location for the remainder of the 21-day incubation period, as determined by the Public Health Authority.
The Ministry of Health has also called on airlines, travel agents and tour operators to inform passengers of the entry requirements before travel.
The measures take immediate effect and will remain in place until further notice as authorities continue to monitor developments related to the outbreak.
