Seeing the INVISIBLE |09 May 2020

One major reason why people find it hard to wait patiently for divine solution to their problems is that they can’t see God. And often, they don’t hear Him speak in their ears or to their minds. People readily believe what their senses tell them. Reality is defined in terms of perception such that men only believe that a thing exists and carries potential benefits if they can see, feel, touch, smell or taste it. Otherwise, they aren’t sure it does.

Unfortunately, divine matters don’t follow this rule. Those who come to God “must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). Those who will receive God’s help in times of need must believe that He is. They must believe that He is alive, that He cares for them, and that He is able to do whatever they ask of Him. Otherwise, divine solutions will escape them. The world believes what it sees. But in dealing with God, we are required to first believe before we can see. For, “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). We must believe before we can receive. God doesn’t grant requests of those who doubt His existence, power, and love for them (Hebrews 11:6; James 1:6-8).

We must learn to see the invisible if we will walk and win with God. Events in human lives are first decided in the spiritual realm before they manifest in the physical. Things are first conceived in the spirit realm before they become tangible realities. Since God is Spirit (John 4:24) they that will relate with Him and obtain His blessings must live and walk in the Spirit.   They must see the invisible and believe it.

Seeing the invisible means living and walking with absolute trust in God and faith in His promises for all our needs. This is an attribute common to all the believers of old who experienced divine interventions in their times of need or became instruments of divine change. They stepped out in faith, held on by faith and received their desires by faith (See Hebrews 11:1-40).

The faith life of these people, and a host of others, teaches us the secrets of seeing the invisible. One, they weren’t intimidated by the present unpleasant situations they were in because they knew and believed God was around and would turn the tide. Walking by sight and reckoning only with what we see and feel will breed doubt and fear in us, forcing us to sideline God and seek unscriptural alternatives. Instead of appealing to logic and reason when we are faced with life’s challenges, we should rather take our burden to God in prayer and leave it there until it is taken away or turned into a blessing.

Two, if we will see the invisible like the heroes of faith, we should learn to hear God as they did. God still speaks today through His written word (the Holy Bible), by the voice of His Spirit that lives in the believer and by the counsel of His true holy servants. We can however, readily hear and ‘feel’ God by reading and studying His word. Whenever we wish to know God’s mind on any issue of life, we should check it in the scripture. For, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

We shouldn’t be attracted by the world’s standard, its quick fixes and fast tracks. They have limited application in solving life’s problems; they are sinful and short-lived. We should simply look away from the world’s pleasures and our own pains and be focused on the invisible God, His commands and promises. And He will grant our desires.

Finally, people who see the invisible are prayerful. They are close to God and commune with Him on their knees. We should learn to turn to God in prayer, especially in times of difficulty. For, if we will patiently and trustfully wait on Him, He will surely meet all our needs, “according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Those who trust in the power and love of the invisible God and cleave to Him in all circumstances will never fail to experience the fulfillment of all His promises!

STEPS TO SALVATION

(1)   Admit that you are a sinner. “For all (humans) have sinned, and come short of the glory of God … (and) the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 3:23; 6:23).

(2)   Repent now. “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out … (for) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9).WA

(3)   Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. “God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

(4)   Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).
