Seychelles basketball loses Robinson Boniface |08 January 2021

Seychelles NATION has learned the passing away of former basketball player and coach Robinson Boniface, more affectionately known as Butterfly. He was 59 years old.

According to sources, Robinson was hospitalised with high-impact head injuries following a nasty fall. He was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Seychelles Hospital.

Still according to sources, his situation did not improve, until he drew his last breath yesterday.

As a player Robinson Boniface played for Bel Air and Beau Vallon, and the national team, while his coaching career gave him the responsibilities of female teams such as Bel Air and Mont Fleuri, before taking over as the women’s team assistant coach in 2002, alongside head coach Michel Malbrook.

Unfortunately he lost his place due to unforeseen circumstances, before being called again in 2005, this time to assist head coach Steve Hoareau.

Upon his appointment in 2005, assistant coach Boniface said “as a club team coach, getting the chance to work with the country’s national team is a step forward. Many coaches dream of this opportunity. To win international competitions, the team will need a lot of exposure and I’m ready to help the team and the players achieve their aim”.

Sports NATION sends its condolences to coach Boniface’s family.
