Celebrating Ladies Circle Day

Ladies Circle Day started in 1995 and every February 11 all Ladies Circle Clubs around the world take a moment to truly celebrate the creation of circling since its inception in 1932.

Ladies Circle International is an international social networking organisation that promotes friendship and service of a sisterhood for women between 18 to 45 years of age.

On August 30, 2019 Seychelles became part of this association. Its founder and current president, Joanna Pouponneau, believes that our country women deserve a chance to be part of this sisterhood. The Ladies Circle Seychelles is the family club of Round Table Seychelles, even though they do charity events side by side with their brother clubs they are completely independent and are run by a group of 16 empowering women who are leaders in their own fields. The vision of the Ladies Circle Seychelles is to engage, educate and empower their society by tackling issues that women face in their local communities every day. Round Table Seychelles’ current President, Rudy Vielle, along with all his brothers support the Ladies Circle Seychelles movement and take a stance as well in breaking this stigma that effects all the women in its society (see accompanying story).

Today, Ladies Circle Seychelles joins the INTERNATIONAL project to support the #bleedingladies movement and break the silence. Menstruation is an issue that all women are fighting especially in breaking the stigma surrounding it. Unlike most poverty-related issues this one is solvable. Ladies Circle Seychelles wants to fight for FREE hygiene products for girls and women in the Seychelles islands, start the Period Talk campaign and improve on better education surrounding menstruation. Condoms are freely accessible for SEX, an act that is a personal CHOICE by all as menstruation is not. We therefore believe hygiene products should be freely accessible for all girls and women too. Menstruation is not a women’s choice, but it forms part of their biology to creating a LIFE. Let us start talking about a different accessible possibility for all women in the Seychelles islands.
