STC to close its Victoria Supermarket on April 30 |13 April 2021

In its continued efforts to curtail its losses, the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) has taken a strategic decision to shut down its Victoria Supermarket at the end of this month as it can no longer sustain the operation of two retail outlets in the town area simultaneously.

A press release from the STC yesterday explained that the company has ensured that no employees will lose their job and they will all be redeployed in order to further enhance service delivery for STC customers.

“The STC Hypermarket will remain open for business as usual to provide for the needs of our customers and the public in general. In order to minimise any disruption in providing shopping access to our customers and in particular to the SPTC commuters, a complementary bus shuttle service will be provided every 30 minutes between the Victoria Bus Terminal and the STC Hypermarket and vice versa,” the press release said.

The coronavirus pandemic has been a shock to the worldwide supply chain and the STC, being one of the main importers in Seychelles, has not been spared from the resulting negative economic impacts.

While the impacts of the pandemic are still unfolding, the STC continues to review its overall operating costs without compromising on its mandate to bring in quality products at affordable prices for the Seychellois people.

The press release added that with its strategic move to try and maintain its prices throughout the island and in particular for the essential commodities, the STC has also embarked on negotiations with the Retailers Association and its distributors to get their support in its national effort to help alleviate the overall cost of living in Seychelles.

Meanwhile the STC will be continuously assessing its way of doing business to achieve its mandate of lowering the cost of living for the benefit of the whole population of Seychelles.
