United Seychelles congratulates new First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba |23 April 2021

The United Seychelles Party has sent “heartfelt congratulations” to the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermùdez, on his appointment as the new First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba.

In his letter of congratulations, the leader of the United Seychelles party, Dr Patrick Herminie, writes:

“We feel, indeed, privileged to have established diplomatic ties with your country since 1978; a longstanding friendship, built on mutual understanding and a strong sense of united purpose.

“Although Cuba is not an economic powerhouse, its social responsibility and its commitment to its international obligations have no parallel in the annals of history. We know, firsthand, the incredible internationalist support provided by Cuba to many countries including the Seychelles. We are grateful for the unwavering assistance of Cuba in the development and sustainability of the health system in Seychelles.

“The United Seychelles party will continue to support the growing chorus of voices calling for an end to the US blockade of Cuba. The blockade is nothing but a relic of the Cold War, a senseless continuation of a politics that only seeks to please the pro-embargo Cuban-American exiles on the altar of electoral expediency.

“Furthermore, we attach great importance to the development of the Seychelles-Cuba relations and we are confident that the strong friendship that exists between our two countries and our two sister parties will be strengthened even further throughout your mandate.

“Please rest assured that we will continue to build on the relationship and cooperation not only between our two countries but also with our two Parties. We remain committed to any future endeavour.

“Once again, accept our heartfelt congratulations and please accept the assurances of my office’s highest consideration.”
