French national charged with murder remains in custody for two more weeks |23 June 2021

Thomas Debatisse, the French national accused and charged with the murder of his companion which occurred on April 27 at Club Med Hotel on St Anne, is to remain in custody for a further two weeks, while the prosecution finalises certain processes relating to evidence that is to be used in the case.

After appearing in court yesterday afternoon, Judge Melchior Vidot granted the prosecution a further two weeks, scheduling the next hearing for July 6 and ordering that Mr Debatisse remain in detention until the specified date.

Debatisse, a street artist from Nice, was officially charged with the murder of his companion, after she was found hanging from the towel rack in their bathroom at the island resort. The autopsy established that her death was not due to hanging but to strangulation, pointing to a murder disguised as suicide.
