The Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Day (June 27) |28 June 2021

‘Celebrating the enormous contribution that smaller businesses make to the global economy’
“On the occasion of the Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Day (MSME) celebrated yesterday, June 27, the Ministry of Investment, Entrepreneurship & Industry is calling upon all entrepreneurs and businesses to explore innovative and creative solutions for their businesses to become more profitable and resilient.
“MSME Day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of supporting the development of micro, small and medium businesses in developing countries, but it is also a celebration of the enormous contribution that smaller businesses make to the global economy, which is often overlooked.
“Part of the ministry’s mandate is to help create a favorable business environment for all MSMEs. Our goal is to help existing businesses transform by adopting digital solutions and encourage new innovative start-ups in Seychelles. This is primarily steered by the Science, Technology and Innovation division within MIEI. Our agencies – Seychelles Investment Board (SIB) and Seychelles Bureau of Standards (SBS) – are also working towards promoting and providing innovative services to benefit existing and to-be entrepreneurs. Through Enterprise Seychelles Agency (ESA), we remain dedicated to assisting and supporting MSMEs in their development and expansion through training and capacity building. The Industrial Estates Authority is looking at facilitating access to resource such as land and space for business creation and set ups.
“As we try to overcome challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, we would like to encourage entrepreneurs to continue working hard and in the process to also look at the health and safety of their employees as well as their own.
“Remember that everyone has a role to play in the generation of wealth for our country and creation of employment.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Investment, Entrepreneurship & Industry, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all MSMEs in the Seychelles, a Happy MSME day!
Devika Vidot
Minister for Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry
Additional Note:
The United Nations General Assembly declared June 27 to be the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) Day in 2017, in recognition of the importance of the micro, small and medium-sized Enterprises in promoting innovation,
creativity and work for all – and achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
MSMEs account for more than 90% of all firms and almost 41% of all jobs in
Seychelles, and they play a critical role in boosting economic growth and creating jobs for men, women, young entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups.
MSMEs are linked with nearly all of the SDGs in some form, particularly those related to poverty, hunger, health, education, women's empowerment, decreasing inequalities, sustainable consumption, institutional development, and
partnerships. MSMEs are, in fact, one of the most successful vehicles for empowering adolescents and women in both developing and developed countries. They are crucial allies in putting the 2030 Agenda into action and achieving the SDGs.
